Most young people will choose UGG Boots in the winter
In Kim Toney’s fashion class at Ladue High Watkins High School, most students can be found at wearing some kind of boots. On one particular morning, five of the girls in her class were wearing five varieties of the Ugg brand. The shoe company, based in Australia, has become the go-to name for comfortable-yet-stylish footwear. Oprah Winfrey even chose the boots as one of her famous “favorite things” this year.The students said that they or their parents bought the footwear for anywhere from $100 to $140, and with the variety of uses for them, that’s quite a value.
A lot of them only own one or two pairs of the Uggs, but Clare Niemeyer, a sophomore at Villa Duchesne, said she owns seven pairs: sand boots, brown boots, black boots, grey knit boots, black knit boots, lace-up brown boots and moccasins.”They’re really comfortable, and slimming,” Niemeyer said.Other girls said the love Uggs because they’re “comfortable” and “warm.”
Niemeyer and Kaitlin Springer, another sophomore at Villa Duchesne, even wear these boots with shorts.”When it’s not too cold, they’re good for running around in,” said Niemeyer in defense of the popular shorts-Uggs combination.”You can wear them with pretty much anything,” said Victoria Wolsky, a freshman at Ladue Horton Watkins High School.
“They’re easy to tuck jeans into,” added Libby Phelan, another freshman at Ladue.In addition to jeans and shorts, a lot of the students enjoy wearing leggings with the boots. For tops, a lot of the girls usually go casual with t-shirts or sweatshirts, but they also wear dressier shirts and sweaters with them for nicer looks.The boots aren’t just popular amongst high school students.
